pleasant simple schedules

last night, right foot was a little itchy- scratched it for about 10 seconds – Hunter was beside me on the bed and yelled at me to stop itching it. And then it hurt a little bit after shower this morning, and had to itch it again. It doesn’t look too bad, but it had me hoping that it doesn’t get any worse than this. Maybe because we’ve come from Pacific City where there was supposedly nothing I was allergic to, to Seaside now, where there is birch. But it doesn’t require any other special treatment, and the left foot has nothing, still nice and smooth.

The other day, we were in the checkout line at the Grocery Outlet with a cart full of groceries, and I was distracted and annoyed from extended food shopping with a toddler, and I didn’t notice who was behind us. But suddenly R turned and said, gesturing politely, “You can go in front of us” and I turned and looked, and it was a single man, clothes disheveled, slightly hunched, a Band-Aid on his face, with some other open sores. He was holding just one thing- I forget what it was- a drink or a protein bar maybe. But I just love my husband, that he notices things like this, and does something about it. He’s a man – at least the kind of man I want – when he takes this kind of initiative. He does what he can. He’s aware of his surroundings and anticipates the needs of others. This is one of many, many similar small gestures like this, since I met him. It’s a big reason why I think I won’t ever fall out of love with him. The whole thing – my husband’s actions, the poor man – just humbled me, and I wasn’t annoyed anymore after that…I was grateful. For my family, for my life.

left foot is still fine, but the right isn’t going down – it even bothers me a bit during the day with a sock on. As long as it doesn’t weep – as long as it stays dry.

11 am, Hunter is standing on his stool at the toilet and says to me, “i’m going to pee, then I’m gonna cuddle you, then I’m going to go to the playground with daddy.” what pleasant, simple schedules he has.
